Conversations with Nature
In ‘Conversations with Nature,’ Ross takes a close up look at natural forms that have died and fallen apart and she attempts to rebuild and record them in her studio, sometimes incorporating throw-away plastic. The result is an imaginative foray into a post apocalyptic world with the discovery of reconstructed figures from nature. About this experience she writes, “I can never achieve the perfection that these plants achieved alone in the natural world, but instead they take on new physical forms and communicate a message about what happens when people’s immediate goals and desires impact negatively on nature.”
Ross pays unusual attention to colour, light and sculptural form. Printed on archival watercolour paper, every photograph is an artifact symbolically showing our opposing desires for both nature and comfort and the lengths we will go to recover what might destroy.
